Rough and Tee Boxes
Rough cutting and scarifying has been completed throughout the course, paying particular attention to landing areas and also lush low-lying areas. This practice will also now be supplemented in late spring / early summer with selective spraying of a graminicide know as “Rescue” which targets the unwanted broad leaf grasses. We are now starting to see a change in the characteristics of the rough, but this is still very much a work in progress activity. Aeration / Verti-draining of all Tee-boxes and fairways has been completed.
The new path at 4th green leading to 5th tee box has been constructed as planned on the east side of the green. This new path is going to take a number of months to get established, with newly laid sod’s and grass needing time to bed in – during this time the path will not be in use, but weather permitting, we hope to have the path in use before the end of summer 2019. The second phase of this project will be to remove the existing path on left side of green, therefore requiring all golfers to use the newly established path.
Steps to the Ladies 7th & 17th Tee-boxes have been refurbished, side wall re-sodded and also new artificial matting fitted. This new matting is essentially on trial in these specific areas to see how durable it is, and if it will be suitable for wider use on our course. Ladies 15th and 18th Tee-box have been leveled, therefore providing a much larger playing area.
In conjunction with the competition committees from the Men’s and Ladies clubs, all course markings and hazard identification markers throughout the course have been refreshed.
The front left corner of 16th green was revisited – decision was made not to make any further alterations to the existing set-up until we get a full plan developed for the full 16th Green complex. The Agronomy of this green is the weakest on the course, and needs to be addressed sooner, rather than later. We will be discussing this larger plan with the STRI during their upcoming visit to the course.
