1st Hole (The Burrows)

The first hole, named The Burrows at Laytown & Bettystown is a 322-yard par 4. The ideal line off the tee is right centre of this undulating fairway. Drivable by the longer hitter with a favourable wind but a miss left, right or long of this green can come at a heavy price. Accuracy is the key to the approach shot. The front left of the green is protected by a pot bunker.

2nd Hole (The Strand)

The second hole (The Strand) is a 304-yard par 4 which runs parallel with the beach and the boundary fence of the course. A decision has to be made to either lay up or drive into the valley short of this elevated green. An approach shot from the valley requires a delicate touch. The green is protected by a bunker on the right front side.

3rd Hole (Dog Leg)

The third hole (Dog Leg) is a 407-yard par 4 and is stroke index 4 for good reason. It is a gentle dog leg right and requires an excellent tee shot. The carry out to the fairway is 160 yards. The approach to the green is protected by bunkers left and right and there is a small pot bunker on the left side of the green. A miss to the right of the green will leave a difficult up and down.

4th Hole (Bottleneck)

The 4th hole (Bottleneck). A straight tee shot is ideal on this medium length par 5. There are a number of bunkers down both the left and right hand side of the fairway. Your second shot is blind but there is a large disc visible at the back center of the green. Aim slightly right of the disc with your approach as the ground falls from right to left. However, cross the dunes to the right up the second half of the fairway and your ball will fall sharply down hill and away from the fariway. A real birdie opportunity for the long straight hitter but beware of any complacency.

5th Hole (The Mournes)

The fifth hole (The Mournes) is a gentle dog leg right 364-yard par four. The elevated green is visible from the tee. Bunkers both left and right protect the fairway. The two bunkers on the right side of the fairway are hidden from view from the tee. The stronger hitter may well be advised to lay up off the tee to leave a full shot into this green. Your approach shot will be all carry to the front of the green and plays its full yardage. Consider hitting an extra club is never a bad idea.

7th Hole (Warren)

Hole number 7 (Warren) is Another lovely hole that requires a good tee shot from an elevated tee. This is an exceptionally well designed hole as to hit driver the player has to be extremely accurate as the fairway narrows at around 270 yards. A lay-up off the tee however leaves a medium or long iron into a green which is very well protected on this excellent 395 yard par 4.

8th Hole (Hen Pen)

The 8th hole (Hen Pen) is the longest par 3 at Laytown & Bettystown and measures 192 yards from the white tee. The wind can have a big influence on this tee shot. Hitting to an elevated small green and using anything from a mid iron to driver. If anything favour the right side of this green. To get out of here with a three will feel like a shot picked up on this excellent par 3.

10th Hole (North)

The 10th hole (North) at 395 yards is a gentle dog leg left with no fairway bunkers. An accurate tee shot down the right centre of the fairway. The green is well protected by bunkers left and right but a well hit shot will filter in towards the flag. As it is one of the longer greens it is good to take note of the pin position while you are on the tee playing the 8th hole.

The 11th hole (The Tower) is a 404 yard Dog leg right. There are 3 bunkers up the right side of the fairway not visible from the tee. There are also bunkers left and right of a narrow entrance to the green. The shot to a two tier green must be very accurate but also beware not to get too aggressive as going long can result in silly dropped shots.

The green is surrounded by hills at the back and sides so 1 extra club is the smart play to a slightly elevated green. This is a small green and any ball on the putting surface gives a real chance of a birdie.

13th Hole (Lighthouse)

For many long standing members, the 13th hole (Lighthouse) (with Maiden Tower visible in the background) is the signature hole at Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club. A 414 yard Dog leg left par 4 to a green not visible from the tee. Accurate drive and approach shot are essential. The Green is protected by a bunker on the left and a ditch with red stakes on right. The smart approach shot plays yardage to the front of the green and no more.

14th Hole (The Piers)

The 14th hole named (The Piers) who's tee on this 377 yard par 4 is the furthest point from the clubhouse. The tee shot is very important and turns more than you think off the tee. Trouble lurks left and right of a fairway with a pot bunker in its center. Your 2nd shot is to a slightly elevated green with a bunker protecting the right side. A good test.

15th Hole (Lars)

The 15th hole (Lars) is Index 1 and the longest par 4 on the course at 460 yards. The perfect tee shot is up the right side but be careful. A miss right will have you in some heavy rough and possibly among some pine trees. Your approach shot needs to be straight and accurate as anything tailing right or left will be gathered up by bunkers protecting the right and left side of the green.

16th Hole (Dove Cottage)

The 16th hole (Dove Cottage) is a 388 yard par 4. A gentle dog leg right but a difficult driving hole. The Tee shot is deceptive, don't be drawn towards the right as there is plenty of room on the left from the tee once you avoid the hidden bunker that can catch you out. The green is well protected left and right by steep bunkers that frames a beautiful approach to this classic links hole.

17th Hole (Reservoir)

The 17th hole (Reservoir) is a short par 4 of 337 yards. Again, an accurate tee shot that must carry 190 yards is required. A lot of trouble right with thick unforgiving rough. A green that slopes upwards from font to back is protected on both sides by bunkers. A real birdie opportunity though for the accurate hitter.

18th Hole (Home)

The 18th hole (Home) is 486 yards and the second of the par 5's. A good tee shot can set you up for home in 2. There are a number of bunkers left and right of the fairway. The green is hidden by two sets of hills in front. A Great finishing hole that has spoilt many a good card so consider carefully how you play this hole as you will not have a chance to redeem yourself.
